Default Women and the garden...

I do a lot of gardening at our place. My husband works very hard and long hours leaving me to look after the house and garden. I enjoy gardening and house work is ok. Do you stick to the man doing the 'mens chores' and women doing 'women chores' in your household?

In my house it's very much woman vs. man chores. My husband cuts the grass, except for a small portion around the house that I cut. I tend to everything inside unless something is broken and then he is the repairman. It's been this way for 30 years and I don't think it's going to change.

We don't have anything that is his vs. hers around here. We both cook and clean. We both work on the lawn and flower beds. We both pitch in for home repairs and remodeling - although he takes the burden because some things I have no idea how to do.

My husband works away and I tend to everything pretty much. Yard work, repairs and rennovations etc. He tends to the manly chores when he is home, however that isn't often. I do enjoy the most of it all though.

At our house it's whoever gets to it first. If clothes need washing, someone puts them in. If you walk past the washer and it's done, you put it in the dryer. If the dryer kicks off, whomever is free gets them out and folds them. Food is pretty much the same. The only thing that is strictly mine is vacuuming and dusting. He has the mechanical things to do and that is only because I don't know how to do car stuff. It sounds confusing but believe it or not, our house runs pretty well.

With a new baby at home it's become whoever can get to it quickest. When I was at home and pregnant it was pretty much all mine but now we are an equal opportunity household!

We pretty much just do what ever needs doing. We both work so if one of us gets home before the other we start the mowing if it needs to be done. Washing is pretty much the same way. Then we have a menu figured out for each night and I make sure everything is in the fridge or on the counter for the meal. Whomever gets to it first starts the meal and then the other joins in as we can. It's much more pleasant than to try to divide things up. Now that they kids are starting to get older too, they will jump in and help (well, jump may not be quite the word)!
