We rent where we live now and the bathtub has always been stained a dark yellow with some of it being darker than the other part. I and my wife have both tried to use everything we can think of to get the stain off and had very limited success with acetone. That's the only thing that I could get to even work a little on the stains. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to make it look better. I'm not going to replace it for the landlord.
Have you tried turpentine and coarse salt mixed together? The turpentine will dissolve the body oil (that's what causing the yellowing of the tub) and the salt will help scrub the oil off. I hate a dirty looking bathtub and actually replaced ours because it got so stained. Of course this was after 30 years of use so it was ready to be replaced.
You may want to be careful with turpentine since it is a volatile substance. Have you tried Dawn Power Dissolver? It takes off some pretty tough stuff. I cleaned the hood over my range and it took off all of the old grease that was there from before we moved in.
