There are several ways. You can sell them online, in the paper, or in some local way like a garage sale. You can pay someone to take it. You can pay it forward by putting it out front with a 'free' sign.

If they don't work you can give or sell them to people who work on that type of appliance. Chances are that they can fix it up and sell it. Also some towns have habitat to humanity and sometimes they accept them and have people work on them.
