Last year, I had my email address hacked and they sent out a bunch of emails out to people I know. At least they didn't get my personal information since it was an account I didn't use for much. How can you avoid getting hacked?

You are lucky it wasn't worse. I guess you need to make sure to use different passwords for all accounts, change them regularly, make sure your computer has sufficient anti-virus software and get Malware Bytes. Other than that, just hope you don't get hacked.
