Default Hacking wireless internet

I've heard that using wireless internet leaves you more open to the possibility of hackers. Is that true? What can I do to prevent such a thing from happening?

Most people never stick a password on their networks which really surprises me, its not like everyone leaves their front door unlocked anymore, right? Why do the same to your network?

Sure, but I don't see why it would matter. I guess it would matter if you have a certain amount of mb you could use before you were charged an overage. I don't care if people use my wireless if they are in the area.

I am like Cheer, I don't care if someone uses my wireless. If they can someone click into it, then so be it. I have unlimited so I don't care. If they get caught that is there problem.

Changing the default password is the biggest thing. Sometimes changing the name so that people cannot easily discover the brand of router helps too.

A WPA is also safer than a WEP. I have never had a problem with anyone hacking it to it. One time someone was using it and slowing me down so I just disabled it every3-5 min until they gave up.

If they can use your wireless they can get into your computer easier. ALWAYS set a password that only you know. It's vital to secure all of your systems. You surely don't want someone to steal your identity. The more people who access your signal, the slower your internet connection will run too.

I agree with Flirty. Hackers slow down your internet connection and unsecured wireless internet leaves you open or vulnerable to all sorts of hacking and invasion of your security.

You can tell if someone else is using your network. Before I set my security my neighbour's little girl was using her laptop and it popped up in my taskbar that "Susie's Laptop" had logged onto the network.
