Default I need advice for a very slow PC.

For some reason my PC is running very slow. I have anti virus, anti spam, firewall, etc. I have defragged and cleaned the drives. My PC is an Emachine with not much memory. Could anyone tell me what else I can do to make it load pages faster? I have a cable modem and it used to be a lot faster. And I really don`t have that much downloaded. Could having too many pictures make it run slower? Help!

I guess the lack of memory which slows down your PC. Do you consider to upgrade it? If you are using Windows OS, set it to the best performance instead of best appearance.

If memory is the issue then having less programs that run in memory at boot time may help. You may need help with this though from someone who knows, but you can use the command msconfig and then unselect a bunch of programs so that they don't run at boot. Then you just choose to run them when you want them to run.

You can use software to optimize your system. I am not Windows savvy so I use Tune Up Utilites to clean my disk, fix the registry, and optimize overall performance of my computer.

It's worth the extra money to get someone who knows what they are looking for to look at it. I've tried it myself in the past and wound up losing a lot of things I can never recover-like photos. I have recently obtained an external hard drive on which I store my ebooks and photos. It does make mine run smoother and faster.

What O/S are you running and when is the last time you have installed anything new? Did the issues happen before the last install or after? Many new programs tend to run slow on older machines, that could be what is going on here.
