Default Security Systems?

Can those of you who have security systems and alarms the difference between them and which you think is the best? We need something for our place and we need something that will call in to the police department. Just an audible alarm without anything else won't work for us.

I went with ADT. About the only monitor company in the area anymore. They bought up a lot of other people. They do wireless sensors now. We also went with a heat of rise/smoke detector. My brother who is a fireman say you want heat of rise in the house, as not every fire will smoke right away, and will not go off when you burn something. Heat of rise needs a temperature increase of about 5 degrees within a few minutes to go off.

Also if you get a monitored system, be sure to file with your insurance company. I've heard of some companies offering a discount of 25%, although most seem to be around 10%.

Thanks Jason. I have been looking at a couple, ADT being one. I appreciate the information. That sounds like a good system. These days you can't afford to be without a security system.

It is not bad. They charge you a little extra, around $5-$10 for a wireless sending unit, rather then using the phone line. Good for those who do not have a home phone.

It does make the wife feel better when I'm not around, and with the savings, it makes me feel better.

Ours is a little different than ADT but not by much. I want to say the name is Vinit or something close to that, they had another name (APX) when we first got it. I think they changed the name a few months back just to mess with us.

I had ADT for a few years and I had nothing but problems with them. They lost my account and never rectified the situation. That could have been a rare thing though. I don't know. After that, I had a small, local company and I had a much better experience with them.

I have ADT and the only "issue" with them I've had in several years is that we had two phone lines in the house, and not knowing that the ADT was tied into the 2nd line, we turned the phone off. A week later, at 11:45 at night, I got a call from ADT saying that my system was offline. While I appreciated the call, I was surprised it was at 11:45 at night.
