I love having a bird feeder so I can see all the different birds but they make such a mess with the seed. I went out there yesterday to refill the feeder and there is tons of seed on the ground. I don't want to attract rats or mice so how what can I do to eliminate the seed problem without getting rid of the feeder?

Sad to say that you really can't do anything about it. Birds don't know how to eat neatly so the seeds will be scattered naturally. Even birds inside a cage can create a mess after eating.
