Default Pumpkins and how much room?

We want to try our hand at growing pumpkins this year. How much room do they up in the garden? Would you actually put them in the garden or start a patch elsewhere?

I'm clueless about growing pumpkins, do they need a lot of light?

We planted pumpkins (both orange and white) last year. We actually planted them in a patch of their own, not in the veggie garden. They took quite a bit of room and they turned color when the sun was out more.

Good luck!

I have never had any luck with pumpkins. I can grow gourds like crazy but not pumpkins. I have had a ton of them start and then they seem to break off the vine before they get ripe.

We usually have all kinds of colors of pumpkins on Halloween (we use them all).

Pumpkins can get some pretty long vines. The bigger the area the better. I've heard of some vines as long as a dozen feet before. But I've also hear other people will cut the vine at the first pumpkin so no other pumpkins grow on the vine and all effort is in the size of the first pumpkin.
