Default Red ants

We have these little red ants (or so they look like miniature ants) and they are all over my sunflowers. They don’t seem to be attacking any other flower and they aren’t in the vegetable garden (thankfully) but they are on my sunflowers. What can I put on the flowers to get rid of them?

You could use boric acid, which is pretty harmless except to small insects like ants. I have a really bad red ant infestation in my wood pile and that is how I am taking care of it.

I know ants don't like peppermint and wintergreen oils, but I don't know what effect that might have on your flowers. You should check and see if they would hurt the flowers or not. If not you could spray a mist on them.

We use boric acid a lot for ants. You can also try a product called "Ant Terro" which I believe is boric acid in a sticky solution. It gets carried back to the nest and it kills the nest.

I spray a water mixture of soap and water on my garden for bugs. Works pretty good, just make sure it is NOT anti-bacterial.
