Default Rotten pumpkin

1 pumpkin is already Rotten! It’s been warm for a few days and 1 of the pumpkins that we carved has turned rotten on the inside. Grrrrr! Good thing we have 6 more to do. It’s black and moldy! My daughter said it makes it look scarier but I think it’s just Gross!

Oh no! Is it really warm at your house? We carved some weeks ago and none of them are rotting! I wouldn't want to keep it either, it will attract bugs.

It happens quickly in Florida. I've learned not to carve until the day of or the day before. I've done it a few days before and the heat got to them and hand them falling apart.

That happens in the north too sometimes depending on how the season goes. I remember my first year in WV and we ended up with 5 dead pumpkins days before the big day. And of course all stores were then sold out of extra's.

We just tossed one of ours out today (this morning). We have 3 more to carve so we will wait until a few days before Halloween. You just never know what kind of weather you will have in October.

We have not carved all of ours yet. We are planning on doing it this week. For some reason kids in this area (older kids) like to come in the night and smash carved pumpkins!

That is terrible that vandals smash little kids pumpkins! We bought more and carved more today. It's supposed to be cold throughout the week so we should be fine.

That is one of the reasons we got into the habit of painting pumpkins instead of carving. The weather is too iffy here to chance it. When we do carve them, we do it a day or two before Halloween.

Have you thought of covering the inside area and the cut surfaces with vaseline? We used to do that when the kids were little and wanted to carve their pumpkins as soon as October came. It does work to some extent, if it's too far away from Halloween then it will wilt anyway.
