Default Tomato plants

How much sun does a tomato plant need. I have a patch that I am not using on the side of my house that sees the most shade in the day. Do you think I could grow tomatoes there?

Probably not, they need the sun to get ripe. You might be able to grow green tomatoes but I doubt they would get ripe without any sun.

Tomatoes need full sun to grow and bear fruit. They will be stunted and develop fungus or mildew or white flies or something like that in the shade.

I understand that tomatoes need at least 6 to 8 hrs of direct sun to grow and produce. I raise mine in raised beds in the north srea of my back yard. It gets direct sun from about 10 am till sunset there. Plus I compost the beds every year with a mix of cow manure and compost. Plus I work into the soils some calcium. Prevents tomatoe rot. Water plenty every day.
