Has anyone ever tried the upside down tomato plant things that I keep seeing on TV. I believe they are called Topsy Turvy. They look pretty cool and easy to maintain. I like that there is no weeding to do and the tomatoes really look bigger (on the commercial). Sure I know that it’s TV that is why I’m asking if anyone tried this. ![]() I have seen other videos online showing you how to make an upside down tomato plant for under $6 instead of the big price of the “topsy turvy”. We started planting our tomato plants in buckets to keep the weeds out. Also to give us more room in the garden for other vegetables. I think this works too because the plants and tomatoes don’t lay on the ground. I find that the tomatoes get more bugs in them and rotten quicker when they are on the ground.

I haven't tried that particular product but we bought a similar upside down tomato plant from the Home Depot and it's a pain in the behind. You have to start all the plants from seed separately and then plant them into the planter after. Honestly, I think it would have been a lot easier and faster to purchase seedlings and put them in the planter.

Oh! My mom got one for Christmas and after she planted the first one this spring she went out and purchased two more because she loved it. She has raved about how great they are and how she doesn't have to weed anything this summer. I have a black thumb so I don't garden. lol

Interesting, I too have been wondering about this. I've seen the ads too. My daughter actually sold something similar through a fundraiser. A hanging cherry tomato kit. I didn't buy it, I wasn't sure how it worked. I'm curious now to know if it will work. I love the no weeding part, but I want it to be easy too.

My husband made a couple of these out of five gallon buckets. They are doing well the only problem is he placed them on my front porch where I put my flowers. If they work, I'll be glad to give up the space for fresh tomatoes!

You mean he made these upside down tomato plants on the front porch with 5 gallon buckets? How did he do this? Just let the plants dangle off the side to the ground? I would think the tomato vines would break. We also plant ion buckets like Kris but we stake the tomato plants up so the vines don't break.
