Default Trees

I would love to plant some trees in my backyard. I have a ton of space in my backyard, but I don't know what would be good. I live in New Jersey. What type of trees would be nice? Should I go for fruit trees or are they too much work?

I would avoid putting any kind of nut tree in your yard. I have a walnut tree in my backyard and it's hell on the lawn mower and grass. Fruit trees might drop too much fruit and cause lots of bugs and critters. I think a nice flowering tree or even a Japanese Maple would look really nice in a yard.

I don't know much about selecting trees, but I thoroughly enjoyed the weeping willow my mom used to have in her backyard. If you're in New Jersey, you're in planting zone 6 or 7 (most likely 7 - which is good information to have on hand), and weeping willows would be a suitable choice.
