Default What do you use in your flower beds?

I think different regions use different bed covers, I'm curious which ones I don't even know about. When I lived up North we used a lot of rock or mulch. Down south I've seen some mulch, but mostly pine needles. What do you/your area use?

We use mulch here and it's a pain in the butt. I love the way it looks but I don't care for putting it down in the beds. It stains your hands and your feet. I have seen some people use stones too. I don't care for that look.

I'm thinking of just putting peat moss down. Rocks are a pain, and mulch gets bugs, and needs to be changed every few years. Peat moss I can just till in and replace as needed.
